Prophecy is building an AI-powered data prep and analysis platform that helps business analysts and data teams transform raw data into production-ready datasets and insights. The company works with leading enterprises to simplify data preparation, analysis, and operationalization while maintaining governance, security, and control.
You will be Prophecy's first sales leader, stepping into a hands-on role that combines closing the largest enterprise opportunities yourself with building and scaling the sales organization. The company currently has a couple of productive reps and founders still involved in major deals. Your mission is to take over as the primary closer on large opportunities, elevate the existing team's performance, and build the repeatable sales machinery and playbook that makes revenue predictable.
Key responsibilities include:
- Carry a personal quota and close the largest opportunities yourself, running full enterprise cycles from discovery through procurement and signature
- Improve the performance of existing reps through direct coaching and involvement in their deals
- Hire and onboard the next account executives, owning the interview process and ramp
- Build the operating rhythm: create a credible forecast, run rigorous pipeline reviews, establish a single qualification standard the team actually uses
- Document your own wins into written playbooks that the team can replicate
- Own the revenue number in front of the board and provide honest assessment of what's working and what isn't
First-year milestones: By 30 days, you can run demos and pitches independently and understand where the product wins and loses. By 90 days, you have a named account list, territory map, and are running your own cycles while coaching existing reps. By 6 months, you have 3x pipeline coverage, POCs in flight, first hires ramping, and a credible forecast. By 12 months, the forecast holds, reps are closing deals independently, and the playbook is documented and in use.
Requirements:
- 10+ years selling technical enterprise software, with significant experience selling to data, platform, or data analyst buyers
- Recent personal quota-carrying experience (within the last 2-3 years) that you beat
- Experience scaling a sales team from 2-3 reps to a full organization
- Fluency in complex enterprise cycles: $50k-$1M ACV deals, 6-9 month sales timelines, multiple stakeholders (champion, VP, procurement, security) with competing priorities
- Technical fluency sufficient to keep senior data platform leaders engaged in conversations
- Comfort with ambiguity, incomplete collateral, and unanswered pricing questions
- Director or VP level experience; reports to co-founder
