The Solana Foundation, a non-profit based in Zug, Switzerland, is seeking a VP of International Communications to own the global narrative and reputation of the Solana blockchain network end-to-end.
You will define and maintain Solana's global narrative around a handful of defensible claims, eliminating competing messages that dilute the story. You will build and personally maintain tier-one media relationships across U.S. business, financial, technology, and crypto-native press. You will own reputation and issues management across network incidents, client bugs, application-layer exploits, validator disputes, and other high-stakes moments—establishing severity tiers, named decision-makers, rehearsed processes, and pre-drafted response language.
This is a hands-on role where you will write statements, make calls, and design systems that let a small team operate at the scale of a much larger one. You will provide executive positioning and communications counsel to Foundation leadership, including candid pushback when needed. You will build a bench of credible external technical voices who can independently explain and advocate for Solana. You will provide communications support to ecosystem teams, including launch support, founder media training, and shared narrative infrastructure. You will translate protocol and governance changes for audiences ranging from technical participants to readers with no prior blockchain knowledge. You will coordinate with Policy and Legal on regulatory and legislative moments, and develop a measurement framework focused on narrative accuracy and reputation outcomes.
The Foundation does not own the Solana network and cannot direct validators, client engineering teams, or ecosystem voices. The work is about building conditions in which accurate stories travel faster than inaccurate ones and establishing enough trust that independent parties choose to coordinate with you early in crises.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Roughly 10 to 15 years in communications with meaningful time in a high-scrutiny environment (regulated industry, platform under sustained press attention, political/advocacy context, or company that recovered from a genuinely bad year)
- Personal experience running a situation where facts were unclear, time was limited, and the wrong statement would have made it worse
- Direct relationships with tier-one business, financial, and technology journalists
- Ability to hold technical conversations with engineers and translate into accurate, repeatable explanations for non-technical audiences
- Track record of earning coverage on hard stories with no news hook, using patience and proof rather than access
- Experience operating with influence rather than authority (coalitions, consortia, federated organizations, open-source projects)
- Hands-on practitioner mindset; preference for drafting statements rather than briefing others
- Composure under pressure, especially on worst-case days
- Fluency with AI tooling for monitoring, research, drafting, message testing, and adversarial review
BONUS:
- Experience communicating decentralized or multi-stakeholder systems you did not control
- Track record of telling principals no while maintaining relationships
- Experience building a communications function from scratch
- Informed opinions on crypto communications and how to improve it
