Salary: USD 74,128 - 92,660 / annual
Brex is an intelligent finance platform serving tens of thousands of companies globally with corporate cards, banking, spend management, and AI-native automation. The Operations team owns credit, fraud, money movement, and payments—the backbone of the platform.
As an Underwriting Senior Analyst, you will ensure underwriting processes run smoothly and efficiently for Brex's card products. You'll exercise judgment within established frameworks to resolve moderately complex cases involving multiple contributing factors, serving as a subject matter expert in your underwriting area.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assess credit quality and ability to repay for business credit card customers
- Review bank statements and financial statements to underwrite applicants
- Handle intermediate-level underwriting escalations requiring deeper investigation into applicant financials and edge-case scenarios
- Proactively identify and recommend process improvements aligned with organizational goals
- Track and communicate key underwriting metrics (approval rates, turnaround time, loss rates) to stakeholders
- Build and maintain relationships with Risk, Sales, Engineering, and Product partners
- Serve as a subject matter expert, executing with high precision and mentoring team members
- Contribute to team learning through knowledge sharing, collaboration, and documentation
You'll need a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or related field, plus 1+ years in underwriting, credit risk, or financial analysis. Required skills include understanding of GAAP/IFRS accounting standards, bank/financial statement analysis, familiarity with quantitative credit risk models (probability of default, loss given default), and proficiency with Google Sheets, Excel, and BI tools like Hex. Strong analytical rigor, attention to detail, and cross-functional communication are essential. Bonus experience includes banking regulations, fintech, Big 4, or accounting backgrounds.
The role is hybrid, based in San Francisco with a minimum of three coordinated days in office per week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday), plus up to four weeks of fully remote work annually.
