Salary: USD 172,000 - 216,000 / annual
Archer is an aerospace company building all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft designed to carry four passengers with minimal noise. This role owns the complete thermal system design for Archer's hybrid-electric aircraft platform.
You will lead the design, modeling, and delivery of a novel thermal management system for hybrid aircraft. This includes selecting appropriate technologies and materials for a complex, cutting-edge system while optimizing for weight, performance, and cost-effectiveness. You'll define and execute comprehensive testing strategies to validate system performance, then present findings to cross-functional stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include managing the full design lifecycle from concept through manufacturing and test phases. You'll interface extensively with supply chain, quality, manufacturing, stress analysis, and FEA engineering teams to ensure seamless integration. This is a technical leadership role requiring you to communicate complex thermal and mechanical rationale to multidisciplinary audiences and drive technical initiatives independently.
Required qualifications: BS/MS/PhD in engineering or related scientific field with 5+ years of mechanical design experience. Strong fundamentals in complex system design, stress analysis, and finite element analysis (FEA). Proficiency with Siemens NX and PDM/PLM environments. Demonstrated ability to solve problems systematically, work independently, and lead technical work. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience writing technical reports.
Nice-to-have experience includes hybrid-electric aircraft, turbogenerators, eVTOLs, or hybrid automotive powertrains; FAA/EASA certification familiarity; and knowledge of simulation validation, model calibration, and uncertainty quantification methods.
