Atoms is building Physical AI—real-world robots for industries including food, mining, and transport. The company integrates hardware, software, AI, operations, and manufacturing to deploy autonomous systems at scale. As a Staff Systems Integration Engineer, you will own the end-to-end hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) system benches that validate the autonomy stack off-vehicle. This is a hands-on technical leadership role spanning architecture, build, commissioning, and daily operations. Key responsibilities: • Design and construct system benches, including electrical architecture, schematic capture, component selection, harness design, physical build, and commissioning. Establish and document correlation between bench and vehicle behavior, identifying divergences and their impact on test validity. • Simulate absent vehicle systems so the autonomy compute operates against a complete simulated environment. Generate network traffic (CAN, CAN FD, Automotive Ethernet), manage power and ignition states, drive-by-wire actuation, and body/charging behavior. Implement gateway and signal-override paths for full state command. • Implement sensor data replay from recorded on-road events, time-synchronized and at full rate, enabling repeatable bench tests. Own interfaces, data flows, and synchronization across subsystems, starting with open-loop and architecting for closed-loop replay. • Design and maintain automated test frameworks triggered by code changes, gating software releases, running unattended, and reporting results in engineer-friendly formats. • Define and execute validation for fault injection, degraded-mode behavior, redundant compute/power paths, and loss-of-communication conditions in support of L4 autonomy requirements and system safety cases. • Own build-versus-buy decisions for bench hardware and software, managing cost, lead time, and maintenance burden. Manage suppliers and vendor toolchains. • Support autonomy, embedded, hardware, and vehicle integration teams as primary bench users. Lead root-cause analysis of system-level failures and convert findings into design changes and corrective actions. • Establish automotive-grade conventions for schematics, circuit naming, labeling, harness documentation, and configuration control. Lead design reviews and train teams on bench troubleshooting. Required: Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 8+ years relevant experience (or Master's with 6+ years). Equivalent hands-on experience considered.
