Village is an AI-powered platform that deploys coding agents to track market signals and surface inflection points for investors. The company transforms investors' research questions into continuously running data applications, making alternative data accessible to any investor, not just the best-resourced teams.
As Technical Publications Writer, you will own how customers, developers, and the internal team understand Village's platform, software, and research outputs. You'll work closely with engineers and customers to translate code, data workflows, analytical methods, and product behavior into clear, accurate documentation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Plan, write, edit, and maintain end-user documentation including onboarding guides, tutorials, walkthroughs, FAQs, and knowledge-base content
- Explain customer-facing software components, data models, data flows, integrations, configuration, and operational behavior
- Translate source code, technical specifications, and engineering input into material accessible to both technical and non-technical readers
- Create and maintain "agent skills"—structured instructions that teach Village's AI developer agents how and when to use software tools, including inputs, outputs, workflows, examples, constraints, failure modes, and troubleshooting
- Write clear explanations of customer research and data analysis, covering questions examined, data sources, methodology, transformations, assumptions, limitations, findings, and implications
- Build and evolve the documentation system: information architecture, style guide, templates, editorial standards, update processes, and quality criteria
- Create diagrams, annotated screenshots, tables, and data visualizations to enhance documentation clarity
You should have a bachelor's degree in Communications, Technical Communication, English, Journalism, or related field. Excellent technical writing and editing skills are essential, demonstrated through portfolio samples showing how you clarify complex software or analytical work. You must understand software behavior and data workflows by reading code, specifications, and interviewing engineers, researchers, and customers. Strong information-organization and content-design judgment is required. This is a hands-on role suited for someone who enjoys learning complex systems, creating order from ambiguity, and setting documentation standards for an early-stage product.
Nice-to-have qualifications include experience documenting software products, developer tools, APIs, data platforms, or AI systems; familiarity with docs-as-code, version control, or structured-content systems; experience creating instructions or evaluation materials for AI agents; and knowledge of financial research, data analysis, diagramming, or data visualization.
