Mariana Minerals is a software-first, vertically integrated minerals company supplying critical minerals for modern energy, AI, and defense technologies. The company combines deep industry expertise with advanced software, automation, and data-driven decision-making to reimagine the minerals supply chain.
You will be the single product owner for the data engineering family—owning the data platform, analytics, data science, and AI/agentic workflows built on top. Currently, this work is spread across technical leads with no unified direction. Your role is to establish cohesive ownership: decide what the data organization builds and why, align stakeholders, and enable engineers to focus on high-impact work.
This is a hybrid Pioneer/Settler role. You'll work with lightweight demos and PoCs on ambiguous problems while bringing order to existing data work streams. You'll prioritize ruthlessly and visibly, being explicit about what will not be worked on, and set direction proactively.
Key responsibilities:
- Engage constantly with internal teams (operators, ML engineers, software developers, analysts, data users) to understand their problems and set the roadmap
- Own the roadmap for data platform, analytics, and data science tooling: what gets built next, for whom, and why
- Write product specs, KPIs, and success metrics that turn ambiguous asks into scoped, shippable work
- Own prioritization and stakeholder alignment so engineers stay focused on deep technical work
- Make build-vs-buy decisions for BI and analytics tools; prioritize tooling that enables self-service analytics
- Own AI and agentic workflow strategy—decide where agents fit versus conventional software, and drive adoption from demo to production tool
- Decide which new data streams get integrated, when, and to what standard as sensors and sources come online
- Set standards for what "supported" and "correct" mean as tools graduate from scripts and spreadsheets; be explicit about what won't be migrated
You'll operate by bringing structure from ambiguity, practicing ruthless and visible prioritization, prototyping with stakeholders, and maintaining ecosystem fluency with current LLM and agentic capabilities.
REQUIREMENTS:
Must have:
- 4–8+ years in technical product management, data platform or analytics product roles, or equivalent experience leading cross-disciplinary technical programs
- Comfort being the only PM in a highly technical room—knowing when to drive decisions, when to defer to engineers, and how to build credibility without being the most technical person
- Depth in data infrastructure and analytics to earn credibility with data engineers, data scientists, and analysts; ability to recognize when a technical answer is sound
- Working fluency with the current LLM/foundation-model landscape and understanding where agentic approaches genuinely fit versus conventional software
- Track record of bringing structure to ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives: setting direction, aligning stakeholders, and owning outcomes end-to-end
- Hands-on prototyping ability—can get a PoC built with stakeholders, not just write requirements
- Strong prioritization and tradeoff skills; comfort saying no visibly
- Exceptional written and verbal communication across audiences (data engineers, operators, executives)
Nice to have:
- Product ownership of a data platform, warehouse, or analytics stack in production
- Experience with BI/analytics tooling strategy (Hex, Looker, or embedded analytics)
- Experience shipping LLM-powered or agentic internal tools
- Background in mining, energy, chemicals, manufacturing, or other heavy industry
- Experience leading the transition from spreadsheets and scripts to supported software
