Checkout.com is building a next-generation orchestration product—a modular control layer that connects, routes, retries, vaults, and reconciles payments across providers through a single integration. This is a zero-to-one product role focused on solving a critical problem for global merchants: achieving better payment performance, resilience, and control without building and maintaining infrastructure themselves.
You will own product strategy for a core part of the orchestration platform, working directly with enterprise merchants to understand their payment stack and highest-value problems. Your responsibilities include:
- Setting product strategy from merchant problem identification through measurable commercial impact
- Conducting discovery with enterprise merchants to translate insights into a focused roadmap
- Designing reliable experiences across provider connectivity, routing, retries, fallbacks, token portability, reporting, and reconciliation
- Building foundational elements: consistent APIs and data models, provider abstraction, observability, auditability, and safe change management
- Leading cross-functional delivery with engineering, design, commercial, operations, risk, compliance, and finance teams
- Shaping the path from pilot to enterprise adoption, including migration, controlled rollout, rollback, and customer co-creation
- Ensuring merchant trust through explainable, configurable, and provider-neutral routing decisions
Success in the first 12–18 months means shipping a focused orchestration capability used in production by enterprise merchants, building a repeatable discovery and co-creation model with strategic customers, improving payment outcomes (approval performance, recovered transactions, latency, cost, provider resilience), and reducing integration and operational effort for merchants and internal teams.
Checkout.com processes over 10 billion transactions yearly for more than one billion global shoppers, powering payments for companies like eBay, Spotify, Klarna, Uber, and Sony. The company operates 20 offices across six continents with London as headquarters.
REQUIREMENTS:
- End-to-end understanding of payments, including PSPs, acquirers, credentials, webhooks, settlement, refunds, disputes, and reconciliation
- Experience building or scaling API-first, platform, or infrastructure products where reliability and operational excellence are critical
- Comfort with data analysis: approval performance, recovered payments, latency, provider health, cost, and reconciliation accuracy
- Systems thinking ability to simplify complexity without hiding important detail
- Capability to move from merchant discovery to product strategy, technical trade-offs, and executive communication
- Ability to sequence a modular product around highest-value use cases, take ownership in ambiguity, and follow through
Nice to have:
- Direct orchestration experience
- Deep experience in payments, financial infrastructure, developer platforms, or other reliability-critical B2B systems
