Neara is building AI-powered digital twins of electricity grids to help utilities stress-test infrastructure, optimize investments, and build resilience against extreme weather. The company uses advanced machine learning and physics-enabled simulation across four continents.
You will lead one of Neara's core engineering teams—spanning technical solutions, platform, or integrations—managing both delivery and technical direction. This is a people-first leadership role with significant hands-on technical contribution: approximately 60% people leadership and 40% hands-on technical work.
Team Leadership & Delivery: Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team, supporting technical development and career progression. Own delivery for your team's domain, setting clear goals and milestones while ensuring reliable, sustainable shipping. Establish workflows balancing speed, quality, and maintainability. Create clarity in ambiguous problem spaces and break down complex technical challenges into achievable plans. Foster collaboration with Product, Customer Success, and Sales. Partner with peer Tech Lead Managers to raise engineering standards, influence tooling and platform direction, and scale Neara's engineering culture.
Technical Leadership: Stay hands-on where you multiply team impact—contribute to system design, architectural decisions, and write production-quality code across performance-critical, data-intensive components. Own the technical core of your team, balancing platform versus application-layer solutions. Work with complex, large-scale geospatial data, synthesizing GIS, LiDAR, asset condition, and historical failure data. Write and review code supporting engineering-grade models, simulation engines, and 3D visualizations.
You are a technical people-leader who has owned delivery end-to-end, comfortable operating across engineering and product, accountable for outcomes. You get up to speed quickly in unfamiliar technical territory, building context independently and finding the heart of problems. You have strong product sense and partner effectively with Product teams, keeping focus on customer outcomes and real-world utility challenges. You plan strategically but adapt as you learn, delivering ambitious complex projects.
The tech stack spans Dart-based client applications, high-performance C++/Rust computation and simulation engines, and Java backend for large-scale data services and APIs. Your background may be frontend, backend, or systems—what matters is earning credibility with engineers in unfamiliar areas and knowing which technical trade-offs warrant attention.
