Chowbus is a leading Asian restaurant technology SaaS platform serving over 10,000 restaurants across 30+ US states and 100 key cities, with annual doubled growth. The company is hiring a Tax Manager to build and own a comprehensive international and domestic tax function from the ground up. This is a hands-on, builder role requiring ownership across multiple tax domains: U.S. state and local tax (SALT) including nexus monitoring, registrations, and compliance across all operating states; quarterly and annual income tax provision under ASC 740 across all entities; setup and compliance for new foreign jurisdictions as Chowbus expands; transfer pricing policy and intercompany agreements across the U.S., China, and Canada; and tax planning and compliance for Chowbus's five China entities including VAT, CIT, and cross-border withholding tax. Key responsibilities include managing state income/franchise tax filings and audit responses, preparing quarterly and annual tax provisions with deferred tax schedules and valuation allowance analysis, leading tax workstreams for new market entry, owning the group's transfer pricing documentation and benchmarking, and identifying applicable China tax incentives. The role serves as primary tax contact for external auditors (PwC) and works directly with local country advisors and cross-functional business partners. The ideal candidate brings 5–8+ years of progressive tax experience spanning SALT, income tax provision, and international/cross-border tax, with a mix of Big 4/national firm and industry experience. A CPA or equivalent is strongly preferred. Required skills include working knowledge of ASC 740, direct exposure to transfer pricing concepts and OECD/BEPS frameworks, and experience with China tax matters (CIT, VAT, withholding tax) or demonstrated ability to build that expertise quickly with local advisors. Mandarin proficiency is a plus but not required. The candidate must be comfortable operating with significant autonomy in a lean finance team and building processes rather than maintaining existing ones.
