Oura is seeking a Supplier Development Engineer – Battery to drive end-to-end manufacturing and process solutions for battery systems powering Oura's wearable ring products. The role spans battery cell development and qualification, assembly automation development and line bring-up, cell-to-pack integration into Oura's proprietary ring form factors, new supplier onboarding, and process technology R&D. Key responsibilities include defining best-in-class battery cell, assembly, and integration processes to meet Oura's design, safety, and operational requirements. You will partner with Battery/Electrical Engineers, Quality Engineers, Material Engineers, and Product Designers to optimize cell design and manufacturing for energy density, cost, cosmetics, and reliability. The role requires identifying, researching, developing, and qualifying battery cell suppliers, pack assemblers, and automation equipment manufacturers in support of Oura's hardware development roadmap. You will lead new battery assembly line and automation bring-up from equipment specification and buy-off through installation qualification and production ramp. This includes driving global suppliers to establish and optimize battery cell fabrication, assembly, and pack-integration processes while ensuring best-in-class quality and resolving production issues. Data-driven decision-making is central to the role, using analytics to influence product and industrial design decisions around cell dimensions, capacity, tolerances, and specifications. The position is hybrid, requiring 2-3 days per week in the San Francisco office, with up to 15% international travel. Candidates should have 3+ years of direct experience in battery or electromechanical manufacturing environments, with expertise in lithium-ion/lithium-polymer cell design, fabrication, and battery pack assembly. Experience bringing up automated battery assembly lines, working with global suppliers from NPI to mass production, and familiarity with battery safety standards (UN38.3, IEC 62133, UL 1642/2054) are highly valued.
