OpenAI's Intelligence and Investigations team identifies, investigates, and mitigates abuse and strategic risks associated with increasingly capable AI systems. The Strategic Intelligence and Analysis team within this group translates real-world developments, emerging threat patterns, and complex safety questions into actionable intelligence that informs decisions across product, safety, policy, communications, and external engagement.
As Strategic Narrative and Impact Lead, you will shape how OpenAI's intelligence and investigations work is understood, communicated, and acted upon. You'll translate sophisticated analysis, investigations, and measurement into compelling, accurate, audience-specific stories that help senior leaders and the public understand the impact of safety efforts, support engagement with external partners and government stakeholders, and make the team's work more coherent across the company.
Key responsibilities include: developing and owning a clear narrative for threat and abuse prevention impact across priority safety areas; translating complex research, investigations, technical findings, and quantitative evidence into concise materials for executive, internal, and authorized external audiences; shaping leadership briefings, strategic risk readouts, and presentations so decision-makers quickly grasp significance and implications; developing evidence-backed safety impact retrospectives; partnering with Communications on messaging and external-facing materials; collaborating with Global Affairs on government stakeholder briefings; strengthening quality and consistency of threat reports, safety publications, and engagement materials; communicating both what evidence supports and where uncertainty remains; supporting selected safety partnerships; and building lightweight ways to identify and reuse strong evidence and stories across audiences.
You should have significant experience in strategic communications, intelligence, journalism, public policy, government, research, trust and safety, or related fields requiring complex issue translation. You're an exceptional writer and editor who can turn technical or sensitive material into clear, accurate, engaging narratives. You understand how to communicate differently with executives, technical teams, policy partners, and government audiences. You can distinguish credible evidence from anecdotes and communicate impact without overstating. You have experience working across teams with different priorities including communications, legal, government affairs, policy, and technical specialists. You exercise excellent judgment with confidential information and reputationally sensitive topics. You're energized by building new capabilities and establishing durable processes and relationships. You care deeply about safe AI deployment and want your work to help consequential analysis reach decision-makers.
