Okta is seeking a Staff Technical Writer to lead documentation efforts for major product launches across developer.okta.com (APIs, SDKs, integration guides) and help.okta.com (admin/product guides). Reporting to the Manager of Technical Documentation, you will work closely with Engineering, Product Management, QA, Support, and the Information Development team to create comprehensive, end-to-end feature documentation.
Key responsibilities include prioritizing documentation work across concurrent initiatives to meet release dates, creating developer content (API references, SDK/CLI/Terraform guides) and admin/product content (feature and configuration guides), and developing deep product expertise through hands-on engagement. You will become an expert in the team's guidelines, processes, and tools, identify improvement opportunities including the use of Generative AI tools, and analyze customer feedback to enhance content quality and relevance.
Required qualifications: 7+ years writing documentation for Cloud or Enterprise products; proficiency with Oxygen XML Author, VS Code, Acrolinx, Git/GitHub, Jira, and Confluence; expertise in DITA, Markdown, OpenAPI, and API publishing platforms; hands-on experience with Generative AI tools; Security/IAM domain knowledge (Okta or similar IDaaS); track record of leading documentation efforts independently for launches; strong technical fluency to read code and API specs; experience writing developer documentation (SDK, CLI, API references); ability to prioritize and negotiate scope/timelines with stakeholders; and a Bachelor's, Diploma, or Master's degree in Technical Communications, Information Systems, or related technical field.
Desired skills include familiarity with localization and translation best practices, and working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The role is hybrid (minimum 2 days onsite per week) based in Bengaluru, with in-person onboarding required.
