ID.me is a digital identity platform serving 152+ million users across federal agencies, state governments, healthcare organizations, and consumer brands. The company provides NIST 800-63-3 IAL2/AAL2 certified identity verification and authentication.
As Staff Software Engineer for Reporting & Billing, you will be the technical anchor for systems that model and record every user workflow, decision, and outcome in the identity verification process. This is a rare scope spanning product-facing data platforms and revenue-critical financial systems, with latitude to design both from the ground up.
Key responsibilities include:
- Architect and own the transactions data model that records how user activity is modeled, stored, and accessed at scale across 152+ million members.
- Design and build customer data delivery mechanisms including query APIs, scheduled/on-demand exports, webhooks, and event streams through the Developer Portal. Own API contracts, SLAs, versioning, backwards compatibility, and deprecation strategies.
- Lead the design and implementation of the metering and billing architecture that converts events into accurate, auditable charges—a revenue-critical system.
- Own availability, correctness, and compliance of reporting data writes, reads, and billing runs at production scale. Lead observability, data quality monitoring, reconciliation tooling, query performance optimization, and incident response for systems where errors are either customer-facing data defects or revenue defects.
- Ensure systems meet security, privacy, and audit requirements of a NIST 800-63-3 IAL2/AAL2 credential service provider.
- Serve as technical anchor for the team. Set standards for code quality, system design, and engineering best practices. Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and architectural guidance.
- Model and champion AI-first engineering practices using tools like Claude and Cursor to accelerate design, implementation, and review cycles.
Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent); 8+ years professional software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
