Valon is building an AI-native operating system for regulated finance, starting with mortgage servicing. As a Series C company backed by a16z, Valon has taken a unique approach: rather than building on legacy systems, they operate their own mortgage servicing business managing $110+ billion in loans. In this Engineering Manager role, you'll lead 4+ engineers across one or more teams, partnering closely with product, design, and operations to build the future of Valon's platform. You'll be responsible for ensuring successful business outcomes for your team while empowering engineers through mentorship, technical leadership, and strategic guidance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Partnering with product managers, designers, and operations to develop and execute R&D strategy that solves business problems impacting homeowners
- Building and developing a talented team of high-performing engineers
- Providing strong technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship (this is a hands-on role requiring some coding and architecture design)
- Defining and evangelizing new processes to increase team effectiveness and impact
- Driving continuous improvement and innovation using data-driven decisions
- Collaborating with other engineering leaders to build cohesive engineering culture across Valon
Ideal candidates have tech lead or engineering management experience, 4+ years of software engineering background, a demonstrated track record of building and empowering teams, and experience in complex, fast-paced startup environments. You should have excellent communication skills, strong judgment, and problem-solving abilities.
Valon has offices in New York City and San Francisco and fully supports remote work. The engineering team is composed of exceptional talent from companies like Stripe, Jane Street, Meta, and Google, working on one of the most complex and outdated spaces in financial services.
