LawnStarter is the nation's leading on-demand marketplace for lawn care and outdoor services, with over $100M in annual bookings. The company is expanding beyond lawn care to become a one-stop shop for all home services, operating three brands (LawnStarter, Lawn Love, Home Gnome) on a shared platform. As a Staff Software Engineer, Product, you will serve as the engineering anchor for product initiatives, working in small, focused teams alongside a Product Manager and designer. You'll have ownership across the full lifecycle: problem-framing, technical approach, implementation, production launch, and outcome measurement. The role emphasizes shipping end-to-end and being measured by impact rather than lines of code. Key responsibilities include defining the technical approach (architecture, data model, integrations, rollout strategy, observability); ensuring implementation quality through prompt engineering, guardrails, evaluations, and tests for AI-assisted code; driving cross-functional partnerships with PM and design; and owning the initiative's metric outcome. You'll work with AI coding agents as force multipliers, directing them to implement much of the code while maintaining a high bar for production correctness, security, performance, and observability. The engineering culture emphasizes small teams with real autonomy, architect review on significant decisions, and accountability for outcomes. You'll operate in a shared codebase with engineering peers, with weekly check-ins from your Engineering Manager. Success is measured by shipping 3–4 initiatives end-to-end with demonstrated metric impact, building reusable agent workflows, reducing cycle time, maintaining quality standards, and leaving behind artifacts (runbooks, evals, workflows) that peers reference. This role is ideal for senior engineers who are AI-native (comfortable with Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent), wired for ownership, energized by shipping to real marketplaces, and skilled at balancing autonomy with accountability in a product-driven environment.
