Zocdoc is a healthcare marketplace platform that empowers patients to find and book in-person or virtual care across all 50 states, 200+ specialties, and 12,000+ insurance plans. The company's mission is to give patients market power by making healthcare work like other consumer industries—where businesses compete for customers and quality improves while prices decrease. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Marketplace Insurance team, you will provide technical leadership on one of Zocdoc's most critical product areas: helping patients understand which providers are in-network and what care will cost. You'll tackle complex technical challenges involving vast datasets spanning thousands of insurers and millions of patients, translating this complexity into seamless user experiences. Your responsibilities include: - Owning the expansion of insurance features and cost transparency, from roadmapping through 0-1 project execution across the full technology stack - Acting as a technical stakeholder in product decisions and partnering with business, product, and design teams to shape strategy - Decomposing complex product challenges into sound technical designs - Writing production code in C#, React, and AWS that serves millions of users - Mentoring engineers and driving adoption of best practices in code health, testing, and maintainability - Collaborating with product managers, designers, and data scientists in an agile environment - Leveraging GenAI tools to amplify team productivity You'll be successful if you have 7+ years building and scaling high-performance distributed backend systems, a track record shipping complex user-facing products across multiple technology stacks, strong system design skills (high availability, fault tolerance, graceful degradation), and a product-owner mindset focused on user needs and business impact. You should be comfortable with ambiguity, thrive in fast-changing environments, and be passionate about simplifying healthcare complexity for patients.
