The Developer Experience team builds the tooling and infrastructure that Samsara's engineers use daily. This Staff Software Engineer role sits at the intersection of developer productivity and AI—helping define what it looks like when AI agents write, review, and ship code alongside human engineers.
You'll set technical direction for a small, high-impact team working on CI/CD pipelines, build systems, and AI coding agents. The work spans designing and building AI agents that automate coding, code review, test generation, release automation, and incident response; scaling tooling to support a growing engineering org without sacrificing reliability; standardizing practices so good ideas spread; and raising the technical bar through mentorship and design leadership.
This is a role where a small change ripples across the entire engineering organization. You'll partner with engineering leadership on strategic bets, represent Samsara externally (talks, open source), and live out cultural principles around customer success, long-term thinking, growth mindset, inclusion, and teamwork.
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's in Computer Science or equivalent; 8+ years building software with at least 2 years in an architect or technical leadership role; strong programming and design fundamentals; 4+ years on large-scale distributed systems; 4+ years leading technical projects across multiple teams.
Nice-to-haves include experience building developer platforms or CI/CD for large engineering orgs (hundreds+ engineers), shipped work with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, custom agents), strong skills in Go, Python, TypeScript, track record of measurably improving engineer velocity, and comfort working in ambiguity.
