Coinbase is hiring Staff Software Engineers for the Developer Infrastructure group within Platform. You will own the tools and systems that every Coinbase engineer depends on to build and ship software, including scalable CI/build infrastructure and deployment orchestration. A single improvement in these systems compounds across thousands of engineers. In this role, you will set technical direction for the group's most complex, cross-cutting problems and lead their delivery from ambiguous problem statements through production operation. You'll own core developer infrastructure platforms across the full lifecycle—from design through production operation. Key responsibilities include identifying the group's highest-leverage problems, turning unscoped challenges into concrete technical roadmaps, and driving alignment across dependent teams. You will drive step-change improvements to metrics every engineer feels: build and CI wall time, deploy speed and safety, and developer feedback latency. You'll lead strategic, cross-cutting initiatives end-to-end, including large-scale platform migrations, landing them across many teams. You'll raise the reliability bar for developer infrastructure by owning SLOs, observability, and on-call, designing systems that recover fast rather than cascade into company-wide incidents. You'll partner with engineering customers, engineering managers, and leadership across Coinbase to shape technical strategy and drive org-wide adoption of what you build, while mentoring engineers through design review, pairing, and shared ownership. Required: 8+ years building and operating production distributed systems, with hands-on proficiency in Go or comparable systems language and direct experience in CI/CD, build systems, or deployment tooling. Track record of designing and shipping high-impact backend or platform systems that many engineers and services depend on. Demonstrated technical leadership on cross-team initiatives, setting architectural direction and driving org-wide alignment while staying close to the code. Deep operational expertise with production systems where downtime has broad blast radius. Proven ability to drive alignment on ambiguous, cross-functional problems and raise the technical bar through mentorship and clear communication.
