Shield AI is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Autonomy Capabilities Team, a central discipline-aligned group developing functionality to automate single- and multi-agent teams of platforms in pursuit of mission objectives. This team operates across all levels of the command-and-control hierarchy—from advanced control laws and motion planning through tactical behaviors and multi-agent coordination—and spans multiple mission sets, platform types, and operational domains including air, sea, and space.
The role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex problems across diverse programs and integration contexts. You will address operational system needs through advanced methodologies that blend traditional control system approaches with cutting-edge optimization techniques. The team emphasizes both fundamentals (aircraft kinematics/dynamics, trajectory design, optimization, information fusion, efficient algorithms) and software integration skillsets (structures, protocols, threading, interface management).
Your solutions will be integrated into real-world platforms with near-term program impacts. Success requires balancing theory with practice, rigorous implementation, and the ability to deliver market-differentiating capabilities that seamlessly operate within customer integration contexts. This is a high-impact position where your work directly supports operations worldwide and protects service members and civilians through intelligent autonomous systems.
