Passfort is seeking a Staff Software Engineer-AI to join the Digital Content and Innovation (DC&I) team in London. This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on designing, building, and operating scalable AI platforms and intelligent applications that bring emerging AI capabilities into production at enterprise scale.
You will spend significant time designing, coding, reviewing, and improving production systems that support AI-powered products and services. Key responsibilities include designing and building scalable backend services, APIs, data pipelines, and inference pipelines that support real-time and batch AI workloads. You'll implement advanced large language model applications using retrieval-augmented generation, prompt orchestration, evaluation frameworks, model optimization, agentic workflows, and tool integration.
As a senior individual contributor, you will act as a hands-on technical leader, making key technical decisions while remaining accountable for implementation quality across code maintainability, system performance, reliability, security, scalability, and cost efficiency. You'll establish engineering best practices through hands-on contribution, code reviews, technical design reviews, automated testing, observability, and monitoring. You'll champion machine learning operations practices including model lifecycle management, prompt versioning, automated evaluation, and deployment pipelines.
You will partner with product managers, data scientists, machine learning engineers, and business stakeholders to translate strategic priorities into robust technical solutions. You'll build reusable frameworks, libraries, developer tooling, and platform components that accelerate AI development across multiple teams. You'll evaluate emerging AI technologies through practical prototypes and proof-of-concept builds, guiding teams on implementation patterns and trade-offs.
Mentoring is a key aspect of this role—you'll coach engineers through pairing, code reviews, design feedback, and example-setting as a senior individual contributor. The DC&I team brings together engineers, data scientists, and AI specialists to solve complex challenges and turn breakthrough ideas into practical products that enhance productivity and create measurable business impact.
