Portal Space Systems is seeking an experienced multi-disciplinary Staff Systems Engineer to join the Systems Engineering Directorate. The role focuses on applying systems thinking across mission needs, requirements definition, systems architecture, interfaces, and system-level integration/verification planning for space programs. Key responsibilities include coordinating across engineering disciplines and suppliers, driving technical cross-functional consensus on interfaces and requirements, performing trade studies and risk assessments, and supporting execution from system definition through integration readiness. You will own tactical execution with hands-on technical contribution to Portal teams, promote technical rigor across teams to ensure consistent system behaviors, and help grow systems thinking within the organization. Additional duties include analyzing tools and methodologies for program applicability and helping establish Portal processes, procedures, and standards. Basic qualifications require 5+ years of experience as an individual contributor in more than one relevant engineering discipline on complex or mission-critical systems, experience examining and tailoring existing industry processes with traceability, and proficiency with design/diagramming/modeling tools (Visio, Cameo, Rhapsody, Mermaid, Draw.io). Preferred qualifications include 7+ years of related engineering experience across multiple disciplines or a Master's degree with equivalent hands-on depth, systems engineering principles and concepts expertise, familiarity with space vehicle or space ground operations, demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional interactions and mentor junior engineers, and experience with requirements management tools. Strong communication skills, technical curiosity, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative startup environment with high ownership are essential.
