Kikoff is a profitable, pre-IPO fintech company on a mission to empower financial security at scale. With record revenue growth in 2025 and a unicorn valuation, the company has built a suite of products helping millions of people build credit, access liquidity, and save money.
This Staff Frontend Engineer role owns the technical strategy and architecture of Kikoff's company-wide web frontend across multiple products (Kikoff, Grant, and future offerings). The position goes beyond shipping features—you'll be responsible for the health, performance, and architecture of frontend systems serving millions of users daily.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning technical strategy and architecture for company-wide web frontend, including component systems, state management, rendering strategy, routing, and build/deploy pipelines
- Driving performance tuning for high-traffic surfaces: instrumentation, performance budgets, profiling, and optimization of Core Web Vitals, load times, and runtime responsiveness
- Leading frontend infrastructure work (tooling, CI/CD, observability, monitoring, testing, developer experience) to enable all engineers to ship high-quality, performant UI by default
- Building and evolving shared UI components and libraries; setting frontend standards and code review practices across the organization
- Leading complex, cross-team projects that measurably improve reliability, responsiveness, and polish
- Mentoring engineers across the team and raising the technical bar
Required qualifications:
- 8+ years of industry experience with a track record of leading large consumer-facing web applications across multiple teams
- Experience building and operating consumer websites at scale (hundreds of thousands to millions of users) where performance and reliability directly impact the business
- Deep hands-on experience with frontend performance tuning: profiling, instrumentation, bundle optimization, rendering performance, caching/CDN strategy, and performance budgets
- Experience owning frontend infrastructure: build systems, design systems, observability, testing frameworks, and developer tooling
- Hands-on, deep production experience with React
- Proven track record of driving measurable improvements in quality and performance (load times, error rates, test coverage, reliability)
- Ability to influence technical direction and gain alignment across teams without direct authority
- Strong data analysis skills and ability to distill information for business purposes
- B.A./B.S./M.S. in computer science or strong self-taught fundamentals
The company values extreme ownership, clear communication, craftsmanship, and lasting work relationships. You'll collaborate closely with PMs, designers, data scientists, and other engineers.
