Shield AI is a venture-backed defense-tech company developing intelligent autonomy systems to protect service members and civilians. The Hivemind Foundations team builds a state-of-the-art Autonomy Software Development Kit (SDK) enabling resilient autonomy and intelligence across diverse platforms and environments.
The Safety-Critical Software Team within Hivemind Foundations is responsible for developing safety augmentation capabilities that meet strict airworthiness development standards. This enables Hivemind Enterprise customers to develop and deploy cutting-edge autonomy solutions with confidence and a clear path to certification.
As a Staff Engineer on the Safety-Critical Software Team, you will architect and develop high-performance, robust safety-critical software that acts as a safety monitor between the low-assurance mission autonomy system and the flight control system. Your responsibilities include bounding unsafe behavior, ensuring safe flight operations, and setting engineering standards across the team.
You will collaborate with talented engineers to design core systems, establish best practices for software engineering, and mentor other team members. This role requires deep expertise in safety-critical systems, real-time software, and airworthiness standards. You will work on systems that directly impact operational safety and mission success in defense and aerospace contexts.
The position is based in San Diego, California, with Shield AI maintaining offices and facilities across the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.
