Sarvam AI is building India's sovereign AI platform, developing full-stack AI infrastructure and applications. The company partners with leading Indian enterprises (Tata Capital, SBI Life, CRED, IDFC, LIC) and is backed by Lightspeed, Peak XV, and Khosla Ventures.
You will own the end-to-end architecture of Sarvam's consumer and enterprise products (Indus, Kivi, and future products) across five platforms: Android, iOS, Windows, Linux, and macOS. This is a high-impact individual contributor role where you set the technical direction for native app development using Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) as the unifying architecture.
Key responsibilities include: designing and maintaining the KMP core that shares business logic, networking, storage, and model-client code across all platforms; shipping native applications with on-device inference, audio streaming, and offline-first behavior; leading KMP adoption strategy and deciding what lives in shared code versus native implementations; building for India's real hardware and network constraints (low-RAM devices, intermittent connectivity, 22+ Indian languages); integrating Sarvam's model APIs (ASR, TTS, translation, LLM, vision) with streaming responses and graceful degradation; driving performance and reliability metrics (cold-start time, memory footprint, audio latency, battery efficiency, crash-free rates); establishing engineering standards for CI/CD, automated testing on real devices, and code review culture; and mentoring engineers on platform-native depth and KMP discipline.
You will partner closely with backend, model serving, and product teams—shaping API contracts and streaming protocols rather than consuming finished specs. The role demands judgment on when to use Compose Multiplatform for reach versus native UI frameworks (SwiftUI, Win32, GTK) for performance and platform feel.
Required: 9+ years shipping production mobile and/or desktop applications; deep Kotlin expertise (coroutines, flows, modern Android architecture); Swift on iOS and at least one desktop platform; hands-on KMP experience on shipped products; strong command of native audio and streaming pipelines; experience with offline-first, low-bandwidth, low-RAM environments; solid networking and API integration skills; production experience with Compose Multiplatform and Jetpack Compose; CI/CD and real-device testing across multiple platforms; senior IC judgment on code sharing, abstraction, optimization, and team development.
Bonus: on-device model inference (TensorFlow Lite, Core ML, GGML); speech/audio processing background; voice-first or multi-language/Indic language product experience.
