Shield AI is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to lead complex hardware development efforts from concept through field deployment. In this role, you will own mechanical design strategy while integrating electronics, RF systems, and composite structures into cohesive, mission-ready platforms. You will operate as a technical lead, driving cross-functional execution across hardware teams and collaborating with software, systems, and operations groups to deliver autonomous systems and aircraft that support defense operations globally.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading mechanical design and architecture for advanced hardware platforms
- Integrating multiple subsystems (electronics, RF, composites) into unified designs
- Mentoring and guiding junior engineers on complex technical challenges
- Driving design reviews, trade studies, and technical decision-making
- Ensuring designs meet field deployment requirements and operational constraints
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to balance performance, manufacturability, and cost
- Owning technical quality and reliability of mechanical systems
You should have deep expertise in mechanical engineering, experience leading hardware programs, and a track record of shipping complex systems. Comfort with defense/aerospace standards, composite materials, and systems integration is valuable. This is a hands-on technical leadership role—you'll spend time in design, analysis, and problem-solving while also elevating team capability.
