Salary: USD 180,000 - 245,000 / annual
Bitwarden is seeking a Staff Design System Engineer to join the UI Foundation team, responsible for building and maintaining core front-end infrastructure across web, desktop, and browser extension clients. You will own the design system and UI component library, ensuring consistency and reusability across the product portfolio while supporting other engineering teams in identifying componentization opportunities.
Key responsibilities include becoming an expert on the platform's front-end codebase and design system, leading development of fully accessible components, collaborating with designers to implement design specifications, and mentoring other engineers on front-end best practices through code reviews and guidance. You'll document component usage clearly for internal consumers, contribute bug fixes from the community, and help establish high standards for code quality and accessibility.
You bring demonstrated expertise in Angular web applications and building reusable libraries with solid APIs from a design system perspective. You have hands-on experience collaborating with designers, implementing design specs from tools like Figma, and ensuring WCAG compliance. Technical skills include Tailwind CSS for styling, Storybook or similar component modeling tools, and writing developer-facing documentation. Beyond technical depth, you're collaborative, adaptable, and genuinely excited about open source and internet security. You excel at problem-solving, communication, and mentoring—someone who drives accountability independently while lifting up the team.
