MaintainX, now part of Autodesk Operations Solutions, is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to lead the technical direction and architecture of its data platform. The role spans infrastructure, CDC streaming, Databricks operations, data pipelines, developer experience, and data governance across a platform serving 13,000+ customers including Duracell, McDonald's, Shell, DHL, and Volvo.
You will exercise meaningful technical leadership across the full data platform surface area, not just delivering solutions but framing complex, ambiguous problems, defining standards and architectural direction, and enabling teams to make better decisions. Key responsibilities include shaping technical direction and architecture; proactively identifying and resolving cross-cutting technical challenges before they become blockers; defining and evolving platform-wide standards, patterns, and abstractions; influencing roadmap priorities by framing trade-offs and driving alignment across engineering, product, and analytics; driving adoption of changes across teams; mentoring senior engineers through complex problems; and navigating ambiguity to lead multi-squad initiatives with minimal direction.
Required qualifications: 9+ years as a data engineer in modern, production-grade cloud data platforms; meaningful exposure across infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/Atmos), CDC streaming (Kafka, Flink, Debezium), Databricks operations, data governance, batch and streaming pipelines, and developer experience; track record of cross-team impact; strong Python and dbt skills; ability to frame ambiguous technical problems and drive resolution independently; experience navigating organizational complexity and aligning stakeholders; and experience making architectural decisions with multi-year consequences.
Nice-to-haves include knowledge of compliance frameworks (GDPR, CCPA, SOC2, FedRAMP), experience designing golden paths and self-service tooling for engineering teams. The mission is to keep the physical world running by providing tools for maintenance teams in factories, fleets, hospitals, and campuses.
