The Nuclear Company is a Series A AI-enabled startup pioneering fleet-scale nuclear reactor design and deployment. The Senior Manager, Data Engineering will lead the technical implementation of the company's data engineering platform, reporting to the Head of Product Engineering. This is a greenfield opportunity: the company currently lacks a centralized data platform, and the successful candidate will architect and build this capability from the ground up. Responsibilities include: • Technical Strategy & Design: Make engineering decisions on data model design, tooling selection, pipeline architecture, deployment approach, and technical standards. Sequence delivery to ensure permitting and construction teams receive required data. • Hands-On Development: In early phases, personally develop production pipelines, then convert this work into reusable components, testing standards, and code review practices for the broader team. • Team Leadership: Recruit, supervise, and develop a data engineering team proportional to company needs. Set performance expectations, conduct career development conversations, and own team delivery and technical quality. • Data Governance & Quality: Implement and enforce data quality practices including automated testing, data contracts, lineage tracking, and monitoring. Manage access control, PII handling, retention, and audit requirements. • Cost Management: Manage cloud platform expenditure against budget and identify opportunities to optimize cost-performance balance. • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work across business units to gather requirements, translate them into technical specifications, and advise when proposed approaches are unlikely to succeed.
