Heidi Health is building AI-powered clinical tools that reduce administrative burden on healthcare providers. The company has achieved significant scale—processing 2.5 million patient sessions weekly across 190+ countries—with a core product (medical scribe) that clinicians actively use. As Staff Backend Solution Architect, you will own the backend infrastructure that powers Heidi's LLM-based agents and clinical automations. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you architect and build backend services, design robust APIs and data models, and optimize for performance, cost, and reliability. You'll work closely with product, AI, and frontend teams to move from concept to production in weeks. Key responsibilities include: architecting backend services for LLM agents; designing secure, observable APIs and data models; profiling and optimizing hot paths, databases, and cloud resources; implementing comprehensive testing, alerting, and on-call runbooks; and partnering across teams to ship new capabilities rapidly. Required expertise: strong software engineering fundamentals with Python fluency; proven API design (REST/GraphQL) and event-driven systems experience (Kafka, Pub/Sub); deep database knowledge (relational and NoSQL, MongoDB preferred); cloud platform fluency (AWS/Azure/GCP) including containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code; demonstrated track record shipping and operating distributed systems at scale; rigorous testing and code-review practices; hands-on AI/LLM or real-time audio/streaming pipeline experience; and strong communication skills to influence technical direction. Heidi's culture emphasizes long-term impact over quarterly metrics, evidence-driven decision-making, end-to-end ownership, rapid iteration, and understanding clinician workflows in real-world conditions. The company offers competitive benefits including equity, $1,000 annual L&D budget, $150/month wellness allowance, $500 home office budget, 26 weeks paid primary parental leave, and four weeks work-from-anywhere annually.
