Remote is a global HR platform enabling organizations to recruit, pay, and manage international teams compliantly across 80+ countries. The company operates with a fully distributed, asynchronous workforce across six continents.
As Senior Specialist, Employee Relations & Transitions, you will independently manage all employee exits for Remote's external employees with a focus on legal compliance, service quality, and customer experience. You will also provide first-level employee relations support, guiding clients through workplace concerns and coordinating appropriate resources. As part of the larger Lifecycle team, you will drive process improvements and initiatives aligned with Remote's strategic goals.
Key responsibilities include:
**Offboarding & Exit Management:**
- Manage complex end-to-end employee exits across multiple international jurisdictions with minimal supervision
- Provide expert guidance on termination, resignation, transfer procedures, employment contracts, and redundancy processes
- Lead and facilitate meetings with clients and external employees, including workforce reduction consultations, negotiations, and termination delivery
- Influence positive outcomes in complex terminations, navigating multiple stakeholders with competing interests
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders (payroll, legal, government bodies, trade unions) to ensure compliance
- Draft, tailor, and administer termination documents with accuracy and attention to detail
- Process offboarding on Remote's HRIS platform, coordinating with Customer Success, Legal, Payroll, Benefits, and other teams
- Mentor junior team members, providing expertise and guidance
**Employee Relations Support:**
- Provide comprehensive guidance on Remote's Employee Relations resources
- Conduct preliminary assessments of workplace concerns, identifying facts, applicable regulations, and paths forward
- Serve as trusted resource for internal and external stakeholders on complex cases
- Guide clients on progressive discipline, documentation, and best practices
- Track and monitor ongoing cases, ensuring timely follow-up and coordination
- Be subject-matter expert on offboarding and first-level employee relations matters
**Process Improvement:**
- Actively identify opportunities and drive process improvements, automation, and product development
- Determine methods, procedures, and standards for new assignments
- Exercise judgment in selecting and adapting complex techniques to achieve results aligned with Lifecycle and Remote needs
You will report to the Manager, Employee Lifecycle, Employee Relations & Transitions, and work within the Lifecycle team. The role is based in the AMER region but fully remote.
**Requirements:**
- Experience as an HR Advisor or HR Business Partner with generalist HR competencies across the employee lifecycle
- Tertiary qualifications in HR, labour relations, or employment law (preferred)
- Proven experience independently managing voluntary and involuntary exits with care, sensitivity, and legal compliance
- Comprehensive HR advice and guidance on employment laws and regulations across various jurisdictions
- Understanding of employee relations principles, progressive discipline, and workplace investigation fundamentals
- Ability to interpret and apply industrial instruments, analyze complex HR issues, and solve problems independently or with minimal supervision
- Superior communication, influencing, conflict management, and negotiation skills
- Ability to independently lead difficult conversations to positive outcomes while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality
- Business-level (advanced) proficiency in written and spoken English; additional languages a plus
- Aptitude to innovate and optimize processes, identifying and implementing automation opportunities
- Efficiency in operations with awareness of thorough record-keeping and data integrity
- Tech-savvy with ability to collaborate asynchronously on various tools and adapt to new systems
- Ability to work autonomously in an international, fast-paced, asynchronous remote environment while balancing multiple priorities
- Willingness to work flexible hours as needed
- Proactive, self-motivated with strong sense of ownership, accountability, and ability to inspire others
