Salary: USD 150,000 - 210,000 / annual
Vibrant Planet is seeking a Senior Product Manager to lead the growth of its utility applications business from early stage to scale. The company builds software that monitors and forecasts wildfire and climate risk, helping customers like CAL FIRE, USFS, and PG&E develop actionable mitigation plans. The utility product line specifically helps electrical and water utilities anticipate and proactively protect against utility-ignited wildfires with precision.
In this role, you will report to the Chief Product Officer and own the product strategy, roadmap, and delivery for the utilities line of business. You will be the expert on customer experiences and needs, conducting deep customer research through interviews, prototyping, data analysis, and surveys. You will synthesize user needs and technical capabilities into prioritized features, own the product roadmap, and make transparent trade-off decisions.
Key responsibilities include: leading customer discovery with technical and enterprise customers; translating findings into product decisions; developing business cases for new product bets including pricing and go-to-market strategy; articulating strategic differentiators and understanding the importance of scientifically sound models; partnering with fire science, engineering, design, and business development teams; and supporting sales and marketing with training and strategic account collaboration. You will also contribute to company strategy, investor materials, and occasional proposals and pilots.
This is a zero-to-one opportunity to build a product with significant impact on wildfire and infrastructure resilience, working alongside top-tier domain experts in fire science, meteorology, and data engineering.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years of product management experience with demonstrated success owning complex B2B or B2G products
- Track record of leading customer discovery with technical, expert, or enterprise customers and translating findings into product decisions
- Zero-to-one product experience, including business model definition, pricing input, and creating training/support as part of product strategy
- Proven ability to work alongside deep domain experts (scientists, engineers, analysts) and add value; STEM education or equivalent experience required
- Comfort with data and statistics (while not doing heavy analysis yourself)
- Significant experience in one or more of: electric utilities, meteorology, or fire modeling
- Preferred: experience building products with strong geospatial components
- Emotional intelligence and situational leadership skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to work with remote interdisciplinary teams
- Comfortable creating structure in ambiguous environments
- Detail-oriented with optimistic realism
- Passion for wildfire resilience and climate impact mission
- Ability to travel occasionally (4-8 trips/year)
- Pacific or Mountain Time Zone required; US location required
