Varda Space Industries is building commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing systems and reentry capsules. The Avionics Systems team oversees the complete lifecycle of avionics systems for Varda's Winnebago spacecraft, from design through launch and operational phases.
In this role, you will lead the design, integration, and testing of avionics systems that enable space manufacturing and hypersonic reentry operations. You'll collaborate across engineering teams to define requirements and resolve conflicting design constraints. Key responsibilities include developing electrical architecture and system diagrams, conducting fault analysis and risk mitigation, designing Hardware-in-the-Loop (HITL) testbeds, and overseeing system integration as the primary technical point of contact.
You will develop comprehensive verification plans for flight hardware, participate in mission operations as an avionics specialist, and contribute to ground infrastructure and test automation. The role includes mentoring junior engineers and fostering engineering best practices across the team.
Varda's team includes veterans from SpaceX, Blue Origin, and major pharmaceutical companies. The company is backed by top-tier investors including Khosla Ventures, Lux Capital, and Founders Fund. Headquarters and production facility are in El Segundo, with additional offices in Washington, DC and Huntsville, AL.
