Salary: USD 150,000 - 200,000 / annual
Tailscale is a secure networking platform built on WireGuard that helps teams of all sizes securely interconnect people and devices. The company is seeking an experienced Commercial Solutions Engineer to drive new business growth by partnering closely with Account Executives.
In this role, you will co-own a book of business with AEs, leading technical discovery, solution architecture, and proof-of-concept engagements to accelerate customer decision-making. You'll guide complex multi-stakeholder deals, translating technical capabilities into business value while acting as a trusted advisor. Your technical expertise will directly influence product roadmap and go-to-market strategy through structured customer feedback.
Key responsibilities include identifying and qualifying new Commercial customer opportunities, designing solutions tailored to customer needs, conducting technical demos and POCs, and building scalable enablement resources and solution blueprints for the broader SE team.
You bring 4–5+ years of customer-facing Solutions Engineer or Solutions Architect experience in networking or security software. You have proven success co-owning pipeline and influencing sales quota outcomes. Your technical foundation is strong: TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls, and troubleshooting. You understand zero-trust networking, secure connectivity, IAM integrations (SSO, SAML, OIDC), AI gateway and governance platforms, and privileged access management (PAM) including session recording and just-in-time access controls.
You're hands-on with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Pulumi, Ansible, CloudFormation) and have architecture experience with AWS, GCP, and/or Azure. You excel at translating technical features into business outcomes and thrive in high-growth, startup environments. Excellent communication skills and the ability to navigate complex technical and business conversations are essential.
