Abacus Insights is a healthcare data platform backed by $100M in funding that transforms how data works for health plans. As a Solution Architect, you will partner with customers and internal teams to design highly scalable, flexible, and resilient cloud architectures that solve customer business problems and accelerate adoption of Abacus' offerings. You will demonstrate best practices around advanced cloud solutions and healthcare payer systems, including claims processing (Medical, Vision, Prescription), clinical informatics (Lab Results), provider systems (EHR), and CMS Interoperability mandate solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Author project architecture design documents (data flows, sequence diagrams, system architecture) that drive technical implementation, with primary focus on CMS Interoperability solutions
- Work across business and IT teams to understand current capabilities and determine desired state for technology strategy roadmaps
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (business experts, technical analysts, project managers, sales, data engineers) to implement client projects that reduce technology costs and solution redundancy
- Partner with Product Management to identify client-specific requirements that may become standard product features or future roadmap items
- Define solution architecture visions for designated components describing long-term goals and near-term client needs
- Mentor internal teams on business needs and use cases for seamless client implementation; provide ongoing support to implementation teams

REQUIREMENTS:
- Deep understanding and passion for healthcare data and systems (payer, provider, integration partners); strong working knowledge of US healthcare data including Medical Claims, Pharmacy Claims, Membership/Enrollment, Provider, and Clinical data
- Domain expertise in CMS Interoperability Mandate (9115/0057), including technology for mandated APIs and FHIR data structures for compliance
- Ability to define solution architecture vision in architecture design documents
- Broad technical knowledge and competencies in infrastructure, data models, databases, service orientation, programming, frameworks, standards, and technical modeling
- Strong experience with one or more cloud vendors (AWS, Azure, GCP) and data platforms (Databricks, Snowflake) desired
- Strong understanding of healthcare industry trends, regulations, and customer needs; preference for previous payer/Interoperability vendor experience
- Experience translating business needs into technology solutions enabling Abacus platform delivery
- Strong communicator who can leverage domain and technical expertise effectively with clients and build relationships with internal/external team members; ability to communicate clearly across technical and non-technical audiences at multiple levels
- Experience working in payer/healthcare data space and understanding of historical data architecture needs
- Understanding of client services or experience with cloud-based data management providers serving large clients
Nice-to-have (not required):
- Working knowledge of Provider (EHR) data formats and topics (FHIR, X-12, HL-7 V2.3, CCDA/CDA) and general system architecture for consuming/using this data
- Working knowledge of Utilization Management, Care Management, or Disease Management
