Candescent is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the architectural vision and evolution of its intelligent banking SaaS platform. This is a strategic, hands-on role responsible for defining platform architecture across multiple banking products—including digital banking, account opening, and branch solutions—ensuring they operate as a unified, extensible ecosystem. Key responsibilities include: • Define and drive platform architecture strategy focused on scalability, modularity, security, and resilience, with particular emphasis on assisted banking capabilities for remote and in-person channels • Lead the evolution of the assisted banking platform to support richer device connectivity (ATMs, TCRs, pinpads, scanners) and integrations while maintaining cost optimization and service levels • Champion architecture best practices including domain-driven design, event-driven architecture, and cloud-native principles; govern through Architecture Review Board (ARB) engagement with other Principal Engineers, Enterprise Architects, and Staff Engineers • Define architecture and technical requirements for third-party components and branch device integrations • Collaborate with Product Management, Professional Services, and Engineering leadership to align technology solutions with strategic business goals • Embed AI/ML, analytics, and personalization into platform capabilities in partnership with data teams • Define and enforce standards for API governance, system design, observability, and security • Create and maintain architectural artifacts including solution blueprints, dependency maps, and design specifications • Provide technical leadership through mentoring, code reviews, proof-of-concept development, and guidance on architecture principles • Manage architectural risks and dependencies across teams and systems • Develop and communicate a clear technology roadmap, balancing adoption of cloud-native technologies with security and support requirements • Advise Product Management on third-party technology adoption through technical assessments, POCs, and vendor evaluations • Identify opportunities to innovate in AI-enabled functionality, operational efficiency, reliability, and user experience You will work closely with multiple engineering teams, Product Management, Enterprise Architecture, DevOps, and InfoSec to deliver a platform that serves financial institutions across SaaS, Single Tenant Hosted, and on-premises deployment models.
