Grafana Labs is hiring a Software Engineer to join the new Metal squad within the Foundations group. This team is responsible for building and provisioning infrastructure resources—storage, networking, and Kubernetes clusters—on physical hardware to support Grafana Cloud's massive scale (millions of metrics, logs, and traces per second).
You will own the full lifecycle of infrastructure code, from design through operation. Key responsibilities include:
• Management of bare-metal environments and Kubernetes control planes running on physical hardware
• Design and operation of cluster networking: load balancing, NAT, DNS, CNIs, cross-cluster communication, and routing protocols
• Scheduling and autoscaling management
• Maintaining Crossplane compositions and Terraform modules for infrastructure-as-code, including versioning and compatibility for Crossplane and Terraform providers
• Partnering with Grafana Cloud application teams to understand their infrastructure needs and prioritize investments
The role is ideal for engineers who are comfortable with distributed systems, enjoy operating their own code in production, and have datacenter or infrastructure experience. You'll work primarily in Go, Python, and Shell. Participation in on-call rotation is expected.
