Adyen is a global financial technology platform providing payments, data, and financial products for enterprise customers including Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft. The company is seeking a Software Engineer II with deep Kotlin expertise to develop and enhance in-person payment solutions. In this role, you will work on Kotlin-based solutions for payment terminals, developing core business logic that deploys across Android and Linux-based payment terminals as well as backend systems. Key responsibilities include: - Developing payment acceptance capabilities including credit/debit card processing, digital wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay), and QR code payments - Building communication layers between payment terminals and Adyen's backend infrastructure - Integrating with diverse point-of-sale systems using industry standards - Writing well-tested code using unit testing and automated testing frameworks - Taking full ownership of features from design through implementation, testing, and production monitoring - Proposing improvements and innovative solutions to keep the platform competitive You will work with a talented engineering team tackling complex technical challenges at scale. The environment balances elegant solutions with pragmatic time-to-market considerations, offering both stability and dynamic technical challenges. Required qualifications include 5+ years of cumulative development experience in Android/Kotlin, 5+ years in software design and development with Kotlin, knowledge of databases (PostgreSQL, SQLite), and fluent English communication. Nice-to-have skills include Kotlin Multiplatform experience, additional programming languages (Android, C/C++, Python), and card payment protocol knowledge (EMV, ISO8583, ISO20022).
