Homebase is hiring a Full Stack Software Engineer II to join the Hiring Assistant team, a critical initiative reimagining hiring through AI for small businesses. The role focuses on building intelligent, agentic workflows that reduce friction in candidate discovery, screening, and onboarding while helping workers find better jobs faster.
You will contribute to end-to-end full-stack systems using React (frontend) and Ruby on Rails (backend), designing and delivering complex features from ideation through production. Key responsibilities include evolving systems that support AI-driven hiring experiences, integrating LLMs and automation frameworks, and partnering closely with Product, Design, and Data teams to deliver high-quality outcomes at speed.
The role emphasizes technical decision-making around system design, performance, and scalability, as well as improving engineering velocity through tooling and AI-assisted development workflows. You'll advocate for code quality and testing standards while operating with high ownership in ambiguous environments.
Required experience includes 2+ years of full-stack engineering (Ruby on Rails + React preferred), proven ability to design and deliver complex systems end-to-end, strong expertise with APIs, distributed systems, and relational databases (PostgreSQL), and demonstrated ability to retool workflows using AI and measure impact. A strong product mindset, comfort with high velocity, and collaborative skills are essential. Bonus experience includes AI-powered or workflow automation products, hiring/HR/marketplace domain knowledge, and event-driven systems or microservices.
