7shifts is a scheduling and payroll platform serving over 55,000 restaurants. As an Intermediate Software Developer on the Mid-Market squad, you'll be a founding engineer building foundational systems for restaurant groups managing multiple locations, complex permissions, and rollup visibility across their operations.
You'll own features end-to-end, from technical design through deployment, making pragmatic decisions that ship. The work is greenfield where it counts: you'll contribute to data structures powering rollup reporting for multi-location operators and help build a permissions and authorization system supporting role-based access control (RBAC) at scale. Expected deliverables include a beta of rollup reports across multiple dimensions and an architectural path for the permissions system in early development.
Key responsibilities include building and maintaining data structures and pipelines for rollup reporting across the full stack (schema to delivery), developing components of a new permissions and authorization system, actively using AI-assisted development tools as part of your workflow, collaborating with senior engineers and product counterparts, owning production issues and leading bug resolution, contributing to engineering culture through technical discussions, and driving work from concept to completion.
You bring a degree or diploma in computer science or equivalent practical experience, professional experience building and deploying web applications in team environments, comfort working in greenfield codebases, solid understanding of relational databases and backend development, proven track record of shipping high-quality code with strong ownership, clear communication skills, proactive work ethic with self-directed priority management, active experience with AI development tools (e.g., Claude), and a customer-focused mindset.
Bonus qualifications include hands-on experience with data warehouse tooling (Snowflake, BigQuery, AWS), background in domains requiring accuracy and real-time data reliability, restaurant-tech experience, and production experience with Elixir.
