Rocket Lab is seeking a Social Media & Digital Communications Specialist to lead the company's digital storytelling and social media presence. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you'll own the content strategy and day-to-day execution across X, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Bluesky, newsletters, and emerging platforms.
You will build and maintain an aggressive digital editorial calendar aligned with mission launches, program milestones, and strategic company goals. Your responsibilities include tailoring content for diverse audiences spanning B2B, B2G, talent candidates, investors, and space enthusiasts. You'll work directly with engineers, mission operators, and production teams to translate complex technical achievements into sharp, accessible content that resonates globally.
A core part of this role is real-time coverage: you'll capture, package, and publish live content during launches, hot fires, spacecraft deployments, trade shows, and major company milestones. You'll monitor platform analytics, spot emerging trends, experiment with AI tools and new formats, and ruthlessly optimize for reach and engagement. You're expected to guard Rocket Lab's brand voice across every caption, clip, graphic, and post, ensuring technical accuracy and unmistakable tone.
This is not a pure strategy role. You'll be on the tools every day—drafting, shooting, editing, and driving projects from concept to publish. You'll live tweet countdowns, get onto the factory floor to capture stories, write posts, and hit publish yourself. You'll challenge the aerospace industry's status quo by bringing fresh technology, unconventional distribution strategies, and bold creative experiments.
The role requires flexibility to travel and support on-site activations, events, and dynamic launch schedules across time zones. Rockets launch at 3 AM; mission milestones happen in real-time across multiple zones; the unexpected is constant. This is high-stakes, fast-paced work for someone who thrives under pressure.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of proven experience running high-growth, high-engagement social channels and digital campaigns for fast-moving brands
- Sharp portfolio with direct proof of killer campaigns you built and executed personally
- Experience in both organic and paid social campaigns and strategies; deep understanding of effective paid social and digital campaign rollout to serve specific business needs
- Flexibility to travel and move fast; ready to support on-site activations, events, and dynamic launch schedules across time zones
NICE-TO-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree
- Ability to distill complex ideas into short, witty, punchy copy with zero fluff and flawless attention to detail
- Extreme ownership; you spot what needs doing, hunt for answers, pick up a camera, or open a draft and get it done
- Calm, decisive judgment when breaking news hits or launch countdowns are ticking live
- Experience in aerospace, defense, motorsport, or tech industries
- Authentic obsession with space exploration and technology
- Hands-on photo/video capture and mobile editing skills
- Start-up environment experience
