Lumilens is building photonics infrastructure for AI supercomputing, from chip-to-chip optical interconnects to scalable photonic engines. The company is Series B-funded and led by industry veterans focused on rethinking the optical layer from silicon up.
As a Silicon Photonic Engineer, you will take a high-impact technical leadership role shaping product direction and driving cross-functional execution. You'll translate customer needs into clear technical requirements and guide development from concept through validation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Defining product requirements for next-generation optical interconnects, balancing performance, manufacturability, cost, power, and time-to-market
- Serving as the primary technical interface with customers, foundry partners, and suppliers
- Creating and owning clear product requirements, aligning internal teams and external partners around priorities and deliverables
- Performing critical link analysis using simulation and modeling to assess noise, distortion, and system impairments
- Converting top-level product objectives into actionable requirements for silicon photonics, electronics, firmware, software, validation, and manufacturing
- Guiding packaged silicon photonics development, including co-packaged optics and optical I/O approaches, with attention to assembly tolerances, thermal constraints, and reliability
- Defining complete testing strategies (EVT, DVT, SVT) and methodologies, selecting equipment, and being hands-on in the lab
You bring seasoned technical expertise in silicon photonics and packaged optics with a proven track record of bringing complex products from concept to production. You're a natural collaborator comfortable in multi-disciplinary teams, a strategic thinker who synthesizes customer requirements and technical constraints into clear decisions, and equally comfortable presenting technical roadmaps to executives or setting up experiments in the lab.
Required qualifications include proven experience in technical leadership developing photonics products, deep expertise in silicon photonics design and trade-offs, direct experience with packaged silicon photonics or optical engine development, demonstrated ability to perform optical link budget analysis, experience defining product requirements across hardware/firmware/software/validation/manufacturing teams, experience defining test plans and methodologies for optical systems, and comfort working hands-on in a lab environment.
Preferred experience includes test automation frameworks and scripting (Python), direct experience with hyperscale data center customers on packaged optics solutions, and experience with fiber attach technologies and optical assembly processes.
