Salary: USD 150,000 - 200,000 / annual

Highnote, founded in 2020 by leaders from Braintree, PayPal, and Lending Club, is an embedded finance platform that provides card issuer processing and program management. You will own Highnote's developer documentation as a Senior Technical Writer, joining the Developer Experience team that manages APIs, SDKs, documentation, and design. This is a hands-on role where you'll set the voice, tone, and standards for how the platform explains card issuing, acquiring, and money movement to developers. Key responsibilities include: - Owning API documentation: reference guides, developer guides, and tutorials - Collaborating with engineers building the API and supporting product managers shipping features - Establishing and encoding documentation standards into tooling to maintain consistency at scale - Building and refining AI workflows for drafting, reviewing, and keeping documentation synchronized with API changes - Treating AI agents as a first-class audience alongside human developers - Structuring documentation to scale as the product grows - Developing domain expertise in card issuing, acquiring, and money movement - Defining and measuring documentation quality metrics Required qualifications: - 5+ years in technical documentation and software (as a writer, docs engineer, or engineer who owned documentation systems) - Proficiency with docs-as-code (Markdown/MDX in static site generators, versioned in git) - Comfortable working like an engineer (branches, pull requests, CI/CD) - Hands-on experience building AI-backed documentation tooling (generation, review, drift checks) - Ability to translate editorial standards into rules machines can follow - Ability to read API schemas and write valid requests; GraphQL experience preferred, REST/OpenAPI as foundation - Strong technical writing for developer audiences Bonus skills include TypeScript/JavaScript/Python scripting and fintech/payments/card-issuing experience.
