Salary: USD 175,900 - 263,800 / annual
Pacific Fusion, founded in 2023 and backed by over $900M in funding, is developing pulser-driven inertial fusion systems to achieve net facility gain and deliver abundant, affordable, clean energy. The company is rapidly scaling from R&D to high-throughput production.
As Senior Target Fabrication Engineer - Assembly, you will be the primary bridge between target design and physical realization. You'll manage the end-to-end delivery of fusion targets to internal departments, ensuring technical requirements, budgets, and schedules are met. Key responsibilities include:
• Lead precision assembly of complex target systems with micron-level accuracy using specialized techniques
• Manage project lifecycle from component sourcing through final integration and delivery
• Coordinate across working groups to translate internal customer requirements into actionable fabrication and assembly plans
• Design and implement assembly fixtures and specialized tooling to improve repeatability and reliability
• Establish project timelines and resource plans to transition from R&D prototypes to high-throughput production
• Oversee quality control and documentation, ensuring each assembly meets rigorous design intent and inspection standards
You bring a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field (Master's/PhD preferred), with proven project management experience in precision engineering environments. You have hands-on expertise in precision assembly techniques, deep understanding of GD&T and technical drawings, and proficiency in CAD modeling for jigs and fixtures. Strong communication skills are essential—you'll act as a technical liaison between scientists, engineers, and fabrication technicians.
Bonus qualifications include experience with micron-level tolerances, chemical/material bonding techniques (glue, epoxy, soldering, precision welding), automated or semi-automated assembly systems, cleanroom operations, cryogenic vacuum systems, and advanced metrology (radiography, tomography).
