Form Energy is a climate technology company developing long-duration iron-air battery systems for grid-scale energy storage. As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will own the technical definition, architectural integration, and system-level performance of 100-hour iron-air battery systems, scaling from pilot to full commercial utility deployment. You will define and cascade system/subsystem requirements across electrical, mechanical, and electrochemical domains using tools like JAMA, Polarion, or DOORs. You'll conduct detailed system-level modeling, hazard analyses, and failure modes and effects analyses (FMEA) to identify and mitigate technical risks. Using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies and tools such as Catia Magic, you'll develop logical and physical architectures through functional decomposition. Key responsibilities include driving requirement change requests through functional impact analysis, evaluating technical maturity across requirement/design/verification coverage, and partnering with electrochemical, mechanical, power electronics, and controls teams to orchestrate comprehensive testing, validation, and system integration strategies. You'll need 4+ years in systems engineering, product integration, or technical lead roles in deep-tech industries (energy storage, automotive, aerospace, industrial power systems). You should have deep technical breadth across electrical systems, thermal management, software controls, and hardware development. Experience managing complex hardware requirements from concept through verification, validation, and commercial scale-up is essential. Proficiency with systems engineering tools, requirements management, boundary diagramming, interface controls, and risk assessment frameworks (DFMEA) is required. The ideal candidate thrives on complexity, demonstrates strong collaborative skills, and can lead cross-functional teams toward technical alignment on multi-variable trade-offs. You'll need pragmatic problem-solving abilities to navigate ambiguity while balancing rigorous engineering standards with execution speed in a fast-paced environment.
