Aviso is a leading Canadian wealth management organization dedicated to improving the financial well-being of Canadians. We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our Technology Ops & Support Partners team, reporting to the Director of Technology Support Services.
In this role, you will independently operate, engineer, and improve Aviso's hybrid infrastructure platforms spanning Windows, Linux, VMware, Azure, backup/recovery, security, automation, and core infrastructure services. You will combine advanced operational ownership with active participation in infrastructure projects, technical design input, automation, incident leadership, and continuous improvement of platform reliability.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning complex incidents, problems, changes, and operational escalations across Windows, Active Directory, Linux, VMware, Azure, backup/recovery, monitoring, and related infrastructure services
- Leading or actively contributing to infrastructure projects including platform upgrades, migrations, patching programs, automation initiatives, Azure deployments, DR improvements, and monitoring enhancements
- Developing, maintaining, and improving automation, scripts, configuration management, and operational tooling using PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ansible, SaltStack, Git, or Azure DevOps
- Providing technical design input and implementation support for resilient, secure, supportable infrastructure solutions across hybrid cloud and data centre environments
- Strengthening operational controls for patching, vulnerability remediation, access management, backups, disaster recovery, monitoring, alerting, and audit evidence
- Performing advanced diagnostics across operating systems, identity, virtualization, storage, backup, network, firewall, DNS, certificates, and application connectivity
- Coaching less experienced team members through troubleshooting, runbook usage, change execution, and disciplined operational practices
Required experience:
- 5+ years operating and engineering mid-size or larger production infrastructure environments across Windows Server, Active Directory, Linux, VMware, backup/recovery, and hybrid cloud services
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure production services including virtual machines, storage, networking, identity integration, and monitoring
- Proven ability to independently resolve complex infrastructure incidents and lead technical troubleshooting
- Strong understanding of infrastructure security, vulnerability management, patching, access controls, and disaster recovery
- Strong scripting and automation skills using PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ansible, or similar tools
- Solid networking knowledge including DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, firewalls, certificates, TLS/SSL, and load balancing
- Relevant Azure certification required or expected within onboarding period
