The Senior Systems and Cloud Engineer designs, builds, and operates infrastructure primarily across Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), while supporting on-premises systems that connect to them. This is a hands-on, cloud-focused role requiring strong system-engineering fundamentals in Windows, Linux, networking, and identity applied to building reliable, well-architected cloud environments.
Key responsibilities include administering, patching, and hardening Windows Server and Linux systems across on-prem and cloud environments; managing virtualization, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, certificates, and core infrastructure services; provisioning and operating Azure and GCP compute, storage, networking, identity, and hybrid connectivity; building secure cloud landing zones and supporting workload migrations; defining and maintaining Terraform configurations, modules, and Git-based deployment workflows; automating configuration and operational tasks with PowerShell, Bash, and Infrastructure-as-Code practices; monitoring systems, responding to alerts, and ensuring uptime, performance, capacity, and security; maintaining backup, disaster recovery, compliance, documentation, and standard operating procedures; and partnering with internal teams and vendors while mentoring others.
The role spends approximately 50% of time in Azure, 20% on-premises, 20% on GCP, and remainder on other internal technologies. Terraform is central to the work—infrastructure is defined as reusable, version-controlled configurations rather than provisioned manually. A passion for automation and process improvement is essential.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience); 5+ years in systems engineering/infrastructure administration (Windows, Linux, virtualization); 5+ years building infrastructure in Azure and/or GCP; demonstrated hands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code; solid networking, storage, and Active Directory fundamentals; and Microsoft Azure Administrator and/or Google Associate Cloud Engineer certification. Experience operating hybrid environments spanning on-premises data centers and public cloud is required.
