Shield AI is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to join the Autonomy Capabilities Team, a central discipline-aligned group responsible for developing advanced autonomy software across single- and multi-agent platforms. The team operates across all levels of command-and-control hierarchies—from low-level control laws and motion planning through advanced tactical behaviors and multi-agent coordination—and spans diverse mission sets, platform types, and operational domains including air, sea, and space. In this role, you will solve complex technical problems across multiple programs and integration contexts, developing solutions that blend traditional control system approaches with advanced optimization techniques. You will work on real-world platforms with near-term operational impact, balancing rigorous theory with practical implementation. The team emphasizes both fundamental technical depth (aircraft kinematics/dynamics, trajectory design, optimization, information fusion, efficient algorithms) and software integration expertise (structures, protocols, threading, interface management). You will be expected to architect and implement autonomy capabilities that seamlessly integrate into customer systems, addressing operational needs through advanced methodologies. This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives in solving diverse, technically challenging problems and can bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and production systems that actively support operations worldwide. Shield AI is a venture-backed defense-tech company with offices and facilities across the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. The company develops Hivemind autonomy software, V-BAT and X-BAT aircraft, and Aechelon simulation and synthetic reality technologies.
