Robinhood is seeking a Senior Staff Security Engineer to serve as the most senior individual contributor across a ~40-person Security Engineering organization spanning Infrastructure Security, Cloud Security, Cryptography, Access Management (IAM), AI Security, and Detection & Response platforms.
In this autonomous, highly visible role, you will define technical strategy and architectural direction across security domains, establishing a cohesive security foundation for emerging AI technologies, agentic use cases, and production AI applications. You'll identify high-impact technical problems, bring teams together around unified strategy, and drive major cross-cutting initiatives from concept through production.
Key responsibilities include: providing cross-domain technical strategy connecting distinct security domains; building AI security foundations for emerging technologies and internal automation; driving strategic initiatives across infrastructure, cloud, identity, and detection systems; writing code and shipping production systems for the hardest problems identified; partnering with engineering managers and senior leaders to establish priorities and align roadmaps; raising the technical bar through mentorship and architectural guidance; and maintaining operational proximity to production environments.
You'll bring proven track record of technical leadership at organizational scale, establishing technical direction and driving strategy across large engineer groups without formal authority. Deep expertise in Identity & Access Management (IAM) and/or Cryptography combined with strong generalist breadth across security engineering domains is essential. You have a strong software/security engineering foundation with hands-on experience designing, building, operating, and maintaining production systems. You excel at identifying critical, unstructured technical problems independently and crafting actionable roadmaps. Outstanding communication skills, humility, and mentoring track record with junior and senior engineers are critical. Hands-on experience securing AI infrastructure, LLM integrations, or agentic automation frameworks is preferred.
