Varda Space Industries is building commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing systems and reentry capsules. As a Senior Avionics Systems Engineer, you will lead the design, integration, and testing of avionics systems for Varda's Winnebago spacecraft.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to define project scopes and guide designs from concept through production
- Develop electrical architecture, system diagrams, and budgets for power, telemetry, and mass predictions
- Analyze system architecture for faults and risks, developing comprehensive mitigation plans and FDIR strategies
- Conduct verification and validation testing for avionics systems on flight and hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) testbeds
- Participate in mission operations as an avionics specialist, determining system health and reentry commit criteria
- Oversee integration of avionics systems and serve as primary point of contact for integrated systems investigations
- Design, build, and operate HITL testbeds that simulate spacecraft behavior on the ground
- Develop avionics ground infrastructure, including test racks and R&D equipment
- Mentor and train junior engineers, fostering continuous improvement within the team
You will bring 5+ years of experience in system design, test planning, and validation. A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field is required. Strong programming skills in Python and experience with avionics, spacecraft systems, or aerospace hardware are essential.
